Visualize

The Visualize tab contains diagnostic views, optional viewport shortcuts, and automatic volume-display defaults. These controls help inspect the scene; they do not improve or rebuild lighting data.

The tab is arranged as diagnostic buttons, Toolbar Buttons, then Volume Visualizations. Global probe visibility, toolbar preferences, and the Volume Visualizations controls are saved per project in Config/DefaultGame.ini. A selected volume's own controls still belong to that object in its level or Blueprint.

Diagnostic buttons

Fullbright

Toggles the fullbright matcap view. Use it to inspect surface form without judging the current scene-lighting result. It is a diagnostic view, not a command that rewrites materials or bakes fully illuminated lighting.

Visualize Global Probes

Shows or hides probe spheres across the scene. Use it to inspect coverage and the stored lighting. The global state is saved per project and is disabled by default. It does not turn probe lighting on or off.

Adjust Global Visualization Scale under Volume Visualizations below to change marker size. The duplicate global-visibility checkbox is no longer in Features > Probes; use this button or its optional viewport shortcut. Neither control changes individual volumes' Voxel Size.

Lightmap Density

Toggles the lightmap-density view. Use it to compare relative texel density across meshes after changing authored resolution or component overrides.

It shows density, not whether the lighting has enough GI samples. A dense lightmap can still contain a noisy bake.

Visualize Fog

Shows only the fog lighting contribution so it is easier to separate fog from the rest of the scene. It does not disable the fog actors permanently or change their density.

If the view is empty, check enabled fog, camera distances, and lighting coverage before increasing the visualization settings.

Toolbar Buttons

These project-wide editor preferences add shortcuts to supported level and asset editor viewport toolbars. All four are disabled by default. Adding a shortcut is separate from switching the diagnostic on.

CheckboxShortcut added
Add Fullbright ButtonFullbright matcap view
Add Global Probes ButtonGlobal probe marker display
Add Lightmap Density ButtonLightmap-density view
Add Visualize Fog ButtonFog contribution view

Unchecking one removes the shortcut, not the feature or its saved lighting data. Diagnostic support still depends on the viewport.

Volume Visualizations

These preferences apply across the project. They are not included when importing another level's settings or saving level settings as default. A volume's own visualization controls can override its automatic display behavior.

Global Visualization Scale

Default: 1. Accepted range: 0.1 to 10; slider range: 0.5 to 5.

Changes the display size of probe spheres and the volume sprites shown by visualization commands. Increase it when markers are hard to inspect, or reduce it when a dense field becomes cluttered. This control now lives here, not under Features > Probes, and remains available even when the global probe display is off.

It does not change probe spacing, baked memory use, or lighting intensity. Local per-volume visualization scales remain separate.

Auto View Unbaked Probes

Default: enabled.

Shows probe markers when placing a new volume, before it has a bake. This explains why a newly placed volume can show markers even though its underlying local property has a disabled default.

The markers represent the authoring grid; their appearance is not proof that saved lighting exists.

Auto Disable Visualization When Baked

Default: enabled.

Turns off a probe volume's local probe display when baked data is assigned. It does not disable the baked lighting itself. You can turn the local display back on to inspect the finished result.

Global probe visualization is separate. If Visualize Global Probes remains enabled, markers can still be visible after the bake.

Auto Show Fill On Placed Volumes

Default: disabled.

Enables editor fill on newly placed volumes. It is a placement default, not a command to tint the rendered scene or retroactively rebuild existing volume data.

Render Fill On Top

Default: enabled. Visible when Auto Show Fill On Placed Volumes is enabled.

Chooses whether that automatic fill appears through geometry. The selected volume also has its own fill controls. Disable the on-top behavior if the editing overlay makes the surrounding scene difficult to inspect.

Show Priority Next To All Volumes

Default: disabled.

Shows density-tier labels and any manual priority override next to volumes. This helps inspect overlap precedence without selecting every region in turn.

The label is not just the manually entered Priority integer. Density still matters when priorities are equal.

Hide Intersecting Probes

Default: disabled.

Hides red probe markers classified as intersecting geometry. Use it to see the remaining field more clearly when many red markers obscure a wall, floor, or dense region. It applies to probe visualization, including prefab probe displays.

It only hides those markers. It does not delete probes, change their intersection classification, repair coverage, or alter baked lighting. Unbaked white markers are not removed by this setting. If every marker in a displayed region is classified as intersecting, that region can appear empty while this option is enabled.

Inspect intersections before hiding themTip

Leave this off while checking placement. Once you understand why the red markers are present, enable it to inspect the usable field without the visual clutter. Turn it off again when investigating missing markers.

Display size is not lighting densityNote

Marker scale, fill opacity, and labels do not change probe count. Use the selected volume's Voxel Size, then bake again, to change the actual field density.
