Comparing tonemappers
Use a representative view with bright highlights, dark surfaces, and saturated materials.
- Keep the camera and exposure fixed.
- Start with Strength at 1 for the selected operator.
- Compare highlight detail and bright colors.
- Adjust White Point deliberately rather than compensating with several unrelated settings.
- Check a second view before keeping the change.
noteNote
Tonemapping changes the displayed response. It does not fix missing probe coverage, lightmap UV errors, or noise in the bake.
The operator and its Strength and White Point are saved per level. Save this map, then reopen it to check the saved look. Switching maps should load the other map's settings, not carry over your latest adjustment.
For a consistent look across maps, use Import settings from other level. This also imports Baker, GTAO, and other Spectral level settings, so review those before baking. Saving a default establishes a starting look for unconfigured levels; it does not continuously synchronize maps.
