GTAO tuning

Start with the default radius and quality. Test both a still view and a moving camera.

Adjust in this order

  1. Choose a radius that matches the scale of the contact detail.
  2. Adjust Shadow Power so AO does not overwhelm the baked lighting.
  3. Raise quality if the sampling is visibly noisy.
  4. Adjust denoising and temporal history if the result shimmers or trails.
  5. Lower Resolution Divisor if thin detail is being lost and the GPU budget permits it.

tipTip

Check the target resolution. An AO setup that looks clean in a small editor viewport may show different detail and cost in the final game view.

Exclude a material

Add a GTAO Disable node to the material graph. It is a material output node and does not need an input connection.

Use this when a specific material should opt out of Spectral GTAO. It does not remove baked shadows or baked indirect lighting.

The dedicated GTAO Disable reference explains the marker's setup, scope, and how to check that the darkening actually comes from GTAO.
